Dr. Maria Del Mar believes that the greatest gifts you can offer to people are simple acts of compassion and service. During high school and as a premed, she was involved on many volunteer activities at children's hospitals, and homeless and elderly communities of Puerto Rico. These field experiences included volunteering at community clinics for the management of substance addiction, domestic violence, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and providing public health education.
While in medical school at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences (SCNM), Dr. Maria Del Mar was closely involved in student organizations like Naturopaths without Borders (NWB) which shared her vision and purpose. She had the opportunity to volunteer continuously as a bilingual medical interpreter, and student clinician, providing free medical care to underserved populations at community clinics located in Arizona, and Mexico. {Images: Dr. Maria Del Mar volunteering with NWB in Mexico} |
